Title:Policijsko delo v skupnosti v urbanem in ruralnem okolju, pregled študij
Abstract:In the diploma thesis, we focused on police work in rural and urban environments with the aim of examining the various factors that influence different approaches to community policing in these settings. In the first part of the thesis, we presented the concept of community policing, its historical development, and its implementation. We also provided a theoretical definition of rural and urban environments, clarifying what these terms represent both in Slovenia and abroad. In the second part, we explored the functioning of community policing in rural and urban areas and summarized key research findings. We found that police officers face different challenges in urban environments compared to rural ones, but neither setting can be considered free of challenges or inherently easier. We emphasized the importance of the constant presence of the police and the significant role of community policing leaders, who contribute to increased safety, trust, and cooperation within the community. In conclusion, we highlighted the need for the Slovenian police to prioritize resolving staffing shortages and to provide continuous training and effective integration of community policing leaders into the local safety system. We proposed several improvements that could help address the challenges more effectively, including full staffing of police stations, the strategic inclusion of community policing officers in local safety structures, and ongoing training in various topics relevant to their work within the community.
