Skozi primerjalno analizo dveh slogovno kontrastnih skladb – Daphne, Jacoba van Eycka in Black Intention, Makija Ishiija, smo raziskali razlike v zvočni zasnovi, tehničnih zahtevah, estetskih pristopih in vlogi izvajalca.

Title:Comparison of historical and modern recorder performance practice
Abstract:Master's thesis explores the performance practice of the recorder and its evolution across various stylistic periods with the aim of illuminating its artistic potential and examining the role of the performer in both historical and contemporary contexts. The work is grounded in the premise that the interpretation of musical literature transcends technical execution and entails a complex interplay of historical knowledge, aesthetic judgment, and personal artistic expression. The theoretical section addresses the development of the recorder and performance practices from the Middle Ages to the present day. Through a comparative analysis of two stylistically contrasting works—Daphne by Jacob van Eyck and Black Intention by Maki Ishii—the thesis investigates differences in sound design, technical demands, aesthetic approaches, and the performer's role. Although written for the same type of instrument, these pieces exemplify the wide range of expressive and interpretative possibilities the recorder affords. Both works will be performed live during the master's recital. The primary objective of this thesis is to demonstrate the complexity of performance decisions and to examine the dynamic relationship between tradition and contemporary approaches. The recorder is presented as an instrument of rich expressiveness that transcends temporal and stylistic boundaries. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of performance practice as a vital element in shaping the artistic character of musical interpretation, while underscoring the importance of historical awareness and openness to modern expressive techniques.
