Abstract:V raziskavi smo proučevali vpliv dveh prezimnih dosevkov: mnogocvetne ljuljke (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) in inkarnatke (Trifolium incarnatum L.) na vsebnost mineralnega dušika (Nmin) v tleh in njun potencial za nadomeščanje dušika iz mineralnih gnojil pri gnojenju naslednje poljščine v kolobarju. Praktični preizkusi so bili izvedeni na šestih kmetijah v različnih regijah Slovenije. Prezimna dosevka smo sejali v dveh rokih setve (konec avgusta in sredi septembra 2022).

Title:Effects of winter cover crops on soil mineral nitrogen content and its benefits for the following main crop
Abstract:In the study, the impact of two winter crops: Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) and crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.) on the mineral nitrogen (Nmin) content in the soil and their potential to replace nitrogen from mineral fertilisers in fertilising the next crop in the crop rotation were examined . Practical tests were carried out on six farms in different Slovene regions. The winter crops were sown in two sowing periods (end of August and mid-September 2022). We measured the content of mineral nitrogen in different soil layers (0–30 cm, 30–60 cm and 0–60 cm) and the amount of accumulated nitrogen (AN) in the dry matter of plants before and after overwintering. The results indicate, that both winter crops reduced the Nmin content in the upper soil layer (0–30 cm) by more than 30 kg/ha, compared to the control, indicating efficient nitrogen uptake and a reduced risk of nitrogen leaching. Crimson clover showed a high nitrogen accumulation capacity in spring, despite more a modest autumn growth after late sowing. In contrast, there was less Nmin residue in the soil under Italian ryegrass. The inclusion of winter crops, especially crimson clover, contributes significantly to sustainable nitrogen management in the soil and can replace part of the required mineral nitrogen fertilisers when fertilising the next crop in the crop rotation cycle.
