Title:Posters in Slovenia between 1945 and 1952 : analysis of examples from Collections of the National and University Library, the Museum of Architecture and Design, and the University Library Maribor
Abstract:This master’s thesis presents posters as a medium for politics and propaganda, sports, and advertising content, with the main focus on the analysis of individual posters created in Slovenia between 1945 and 1952. It analyses selected examples of posters from the collections of the National and University Library, the Museum of Architecture and Design, and the University Library Maribor, all created during the aforementioned period. The aim of the master’s thesis is to describe the historical circumstances in which the posters were created and to analyse their influence on the content, as well as to determine the extent to which the posters adhered to socialist realism, to identify the main characteristics of socialist realism in Slovenia, and to explore the most common motifs that appeared. The thesis is divided into two parts; the first part presents an analysis of the development of posters in Europe, which is crucial for understanding their social and political role during the examined period. It also presents socialist realism in Slovenia and in Slovenian visual art, which is directly related to the second part of this master’s thesis, which focuses on the analysis of selected examples of posters.
