Abstract:Die vorliegende Magisterarbeit analysiert die Bedeutung von Gender, Rasse und Identität im Roman Berlin Alexanderplatz von Alfred Döblin.

Title:Gender, race and identity in the novel Berlin Alexanderplatz by Alfred Döblin
Abstract:This master's thesis analyzes the significance and importance of gender, race and identity in the novel Berlin Alexanderplatz by Alfred Döblin. The thesis outlines and explains key concepts such as gender, sex, race and identity to support the reader's understanding. Since the book was published during the Weimar Republic, the historical background of that period is also described. The focus of the thesis is on the analysis of the novel's central themes. Based on examples and references, the role of gender, race and identity in the novel and in the historical period is examined. The empirical section investigates whether gender plays a role and whether it contributes to the distribution of roles in the novel. It also includes queer identities, which are likewise analyzed in the thesis. The thesis also addresses racial issues, which are thematized and depicted in parts of the work. Furthermore, identity and self-identification are studied within a social context. The thesis explains why certain events and actions occur in this regard.
