Abstract:Glavni namen magistrske naloge je primerjati spremembe v telesnih razsežnostih in telesni sestavi učencev četrtega razreda pred in po poletnih počitnicah glede na telesni fitnes in bivalno okolje. Vzorec zajema 70 učencev iz dveh osnovnih šol, Osnovne šole Kidričevo in Osnovne šole Marije Vere Kamnik, od tega 32 dečkov in 38 deklic. Podatke smo zbirali v sklopu dveh merjenj, junija in septembra 2024.

Title:Comparison of body composition in children aged 9 to 12 before and after summer holidays, depending on physical fitness and living environment
Abstract:The main aim of this master thesis is to compare changes in body composition among fourth grade students before and after the summer holidays, regarding their physical fitness and living environment. The sample comprised 70 pupils (32 boys and 38 girls) from two primary schools: Kidričevo and Marija Vera Kamnik. Data were collected at two time points, June and September 2024 —and analysed based on the independent variables: living environment, physical fitness and gender. The measurements included body height, body mass, lean, skeletal and fat mass, body water and performance on the beep test, which was used to estimate VO2max. The data were processed using SPSS statistical software. To assess the statistical significance of differences, the Paired Samples t Test was applied. The results showed an increase in all dependent variables during the summer holidays, regardless of living environment and physical fitness level. Contrary to expectations, the living environment, despite differences in access to sports infrastructure, did not emerge as a significant factor. However, regarding physical fitness, a greater increase in body composition parameters was observed among both boys and girls with lower VO2max values. These findings suggest that VO2max is a key determinant of changes in body size and composition in school-aged children.
