Abstract:Staranje prebivalstva je eden izmed ključnih demografskih in družbenih izzivov sodobnega časa.

Title:Prospective memory and cognitive reserve in relation to successful aging and life satisfactionafter retirement
Abstract:Population ageing is one of the key demographic and social challenges of modern times. The ageing process is not uniform; it varies greatly among individuals and is reflected in physical and cognitive functioning, as well as in the psychological experience of life. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between cognitive reserve, prospective memory, successful ageing, and life satisfaction in individuals after retirement. A total of 62 participants took part in the research, including 21 men and 41 women. Four self-report questionnaires were used. Our results showed that, on average, older adults are moderately satisfied with their lives after retirement, despite experiencing minor but expected issues with prospective memory. Cognitive reserve proved to be an important protective factor, associated with a higher level of successful ageing and greater life satisfaction. Women achieved higher cognitive reserve scores and reported fewer memory problems. We confirmed positive associations between cognitive reserve, prospective memory, life satisfaction, and successful ageing. However, we did not find evidence that prospective memory moderates the relationship between cognitive reserve and life satisfaction. Our findings contribute to a better understanding of the psychological and cognitive factors involved in ageing and can serve as a basis for developing targeted interventions and programmes that support the well-being and independence of older adults in the post-retirement period.
