Title:Concept of upgrading road safety barriers
Abstract:The thesis presents the development of a prototype system for detecting vehicle collisions with roadside barriers using vibration sensors. A SW-420 vibration sensor was used, connected to the ESP8266 microcontroller. The system detects vibrations caused by collisions and wirelessly transmits the data. The prototype was tested on a real metal roadside barrier, where vibration detection was confirmed up to a distance of 30 m for weaker impacts and up to 50 m for stronger ones. The electronics are housed in a waterproof IP65 enclosure, and power is supplied by a lithium-ion battery, with the option of solar charging. The project includes hardware assembly, software development in the Arduino IDE, and real-world testing. Possibilities for upgrading the system were also explored, including the integration of temperature and humidity sensors, multiple sensing units, and the use of more precise components. The final concept lays the foundation for smart infrastructure that can help improve road safety and reduce emergency response times in the event of an accident.
