Title:Investigating photovoltaic plants' fires
Abstract:The thesis focuses on photovoltaic power plants, fire safety, and fire investigation within these specific energy systems. Investigating fires in photovoltaic power plants is complex, as it involves a detailed analysis of the causes and consequences of fires that can occur in these intricate systems. The main emphasis of the thesis is on understanding the development of fires related to photovoltaic power plants, the components of the system most exposed to risk, and the procedures for investigating fires in this context. In investigating fires in photovoltaic power plants, it is crucial to determine the causes of the fire, its impact on the surrounding environment, and ways to prevent similar incidents in the future. This includes checking whether appropriate protective systems, such as fuses, overload protection, and other safety components, have been installed and whether these systems functioned correctly in the event of an incident. Additionally, investigators analyze potential errors in system installation and maintenance, as improperly installed or damaged components can increase the likelihood of a fire breaking out. The thesis also includes an interview with a criminalist specializing in fire investigations, who provided insight into the specific procedures for investigating fires in photovoltaic power plants. This interview contributed to a better understanding of how criminalists approach investigations of such fires, the use of technological and forensic methods, and their collaboration with electrical experts in analyzing damages and faults leading to fires. The importance of an interdisciplinary approach to fire investigations in photovoltaic systems is emphasized, as it involves both technical expertise regarding the operation of these complex systems and forensic training to correctly investigate the causes of fires.
