Abstract:Uvod: Diazepam, predstavnik benzodiazepinov, se pogosto uporablja za hitro lajšanje simptomov paničnih napadov zaradi izrazitega anksiolitičnega učinka. Kljub dokazani kratkoročni učinkovitosti ostajajo odprta vprašanja glede optimalne uporabe, varnostnega profila in tveganj pri dolgotrajni uporabi pri odraslih s panično motnjo. Metode: V zaključnem delu smo izvedli sistematični pregled znanstvene in strokovne literature z uporabo deskriptivne metode dela. Literaturo smo iskali v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, Cochrane Library in SAGE z uporabo pristopa PIO. Zaradi omejenega števila raziskav so potrebne nadaljnje študije tega področja.

Title:Efficacy of diazepam in the treatment of panic attacks
Abstract:Introduction: Diazepam, a benzodiazepine, is widely used for the rapid relief of panic attack symptoms due to its pronounced anxiolytic effect. Despite its proven short-term efficacy, questions remain regarding optimal use, safety profile and risks associated with long-term use in adults with panic disorder. Methods: In the final part of the study, we conducted a systematic review of scientific and professional literature using a descriptive method. The literature was searched in the PubMed, Cochrane Library and SAGE databases using the PIO approach. The search and selection process is illustrated using a PRISMA diagram. Identified studies were analyzed using an evaluation table and ranked according to the hierarchy of evidence. Results: Through systematic searching of databases, we identified 895 articles, with an additional 3 identified through manual searching. After removing 29 duplicates and excluding 700 irrelevant articles, we reviewed 14 full texts. We included 5 studies in the analysis, which were assessed based on their objectives, methodology, sample, and results, and classified according to the hierarchy of evidence. Discussion and conclusion: The included studies confirm that diazepam is effective in rapidly reducing the symptoms of panic attacks, especially in the early stages of treatment, but it is not suitable for long-term use due to the risk of addiction. In clinical practice, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors are shown to be more effective and safer for long-term treatment. Due to the limited number of studies, further research in this area is needed.
