Abstract:Baron Hermann Ladislav Gödel-Lannoy (1820–1892), nemški aristokrat slovenskega rodu, rojen v Mariboru, je v zadnji četrtini 19. stoletja sodil med vidnejše politične predstavnike slovenske Štajerske. Po zaključku pravne izobrazbe je svojo poklicno pot začel v sodstvu, vendar je kmalu prešel v državno upravo, kjer se je posvetil premoženjskim in finančnim zadevam. Zaradi strokovne usposobljenosti in zavzetosti je napredoval do položaja finančnega prokuratorja na Dunaju, ki ga je zasedal do svoje upokojitve leta 1880. Istočasno se je aktivno vključil v politično življenje: med letoma 1879 in 1890 je kot slovenski poslanec deloval v dunajskem državnem zboru, kjer je opravljal tudi funkcijo drugega podpredsednika, hkrati pa je bil med letoma 1884 in 1890 tudi poslanec v štajerskem deželnem zboru in namestnik deželnega glavarja. Gödel-Lannoy je slovel kot izjemno razgledan, govorniško spreten in vpliven posameznik. Po upokojitvi je v Mariboru kupil reprezentančno palačo, danes znano kot palača Goedel-Lannoy, kjer je ustvaril razkošen družinski dom z visoko umetnostnozgodovinsko vrednostjo.

Title:Hermann Gödel-Lannoy: an outline of life and work
Abstract:Baron Hermann Ladislav Gödel-Lannoy (1820-1892), a German aristocrat of Slovene origin, born in Maribor, was one of the most prominent political representatives of Slovene Styria region in the last quarter of the 19th century. After completing his legal education, he began his career in the judiciary, but soon moved to public administration, where he focused on property and financial matters. Due to his professional qualifications and dedication, he advanced to the position of financial procurator in Vienna, which he held until his retirement in 1880. At the same time, he was actively involved in political life: from 1879 to 1890, he served as a Slovenian deputy in the Vienna State Assembly, where he also held the position of second vice-president, and between 1884 and 1890, he was a deputy in the Styrian Provincional Diet and deputy governor. Gödel-Lannoy had a reputation as a man of great insight, oratorical skill and influence. After his retirement, he bought a representative palace in Maribor, today known as Goedel-Lannoy Palace, where he created a luxurious family home of high art-historical value.
