Title:Prevalence of body dysmorphic disorder among nursing students
Abstract:: Body dysmorphic disorder is a psychiatric condition characterized by an excessive focus on perceived physical flaws, often unnoticeable to others. The disorder can cause severe distress, low self-esteem, and social isolation. The aim of this study is to examine the prevalence of body dysmorphic disorder among nursing students and its impact on their mental health and academic performance. The thesis is based on a descriptive research method. Relevant professional literature was obtained and reviewed from internationally recognized databases, including PubMed, CINAHL Ultimate, Sage, and ScienceDirect. A literature review was conducted, and the findings were presented using the PRISMA diagram. The results of the analysis of four studies indicate that body dysmorphic disorder is present among nursing students and represents a significant psychological burden. All studies identified risk factors such as low self-esteem, academic stress, and societal pressure related to appearance. Students often express dissatisfaction with their body image, which negatively affects their mental health and academic performance.Body dysmorphic disorder can negatively impact nursing students' self-confidence, social life, and academic success. Education on realistic body image standards and access to psychological support are essential for their well-being. Further research is needed to develop effective strategies for managing this disorder.
