V nadaljevanju povežemo moškost z očetovstvom in opisujemo spreminjanje vloge očeta skozi zgodovino.

Title:The role of a man in the family and his caregiving responsibilities
Abstract:This master's thesis explores the evolving role of men within the family, with a particular emphasis on the growing involvement of fathers in everyday family life and the move toward a more equal sharing of household and caregiving responsibilities between partners. The theoretical part begins by examining the concept of masculinity and its historical development. It then links masculinity with fatherhood, tracing how the role of the father has transformed over time. Special focus is placed on the man's role within the family—his participation in domestic duties, caregiving, childrearing, and nurturing. The analysis also considers the influence of labour market conditions and patterns inherited from the family of origin on the formation of paternal roles. Relevant Slovenian legislation concerning fathers’ rights at the time of childbirth is also discussed. The empirical part of the thesis is based on qualitative research, specifically semi-structured interviews with fathers. The findings indicate that contemporary fathers are more engaged in family life than in the past. They generally perceive their role positively and are aware of the importance of being actively involved in family matters and caregiving. However, work obligations frequently emerge as a key obstacle to deeper engagement, often resulting in time constraints. Furthermore, the family of origin plays a significant role in shaping fatherhood—either supporting or limiting paternal involvement.
