Title:Developing strength in shot putters
Abstract:This thesis deals with the importance of developing strength in the shot put, one of the key throwing disciplines in athletics. The emphasis is placed on the role of various types of strength (maximal, explosive, repetitive, and relative) and their direct connection to the efficiency of the shot put technique and performance. Thesis chapters include a meticulous explanation of the biomechanical, physiological, and training principles of strength, with a focus on factors which have an impact on developing strength such as body composition, neuromuscular coordination, psychological readiness, and age-specific differences. A special attention is given to the relationship between the explosive strength and technical execution of the shot, and competition achievement. The practical part introduces concrete strength training methods, including plyometrics, ballistic exercises, Olympic lifts, and core stabilization exercises, which are crucial for the efficient transfer of force through the kinetic chain of movement. The thesis also exemplifies a weekly training plan for both senior and youth athletes, hence offering a practical application for coaches and athletes. We can conclude that a comprehensive and individualized approach to developing strength-combined with technical training and recovery - is essential for a long-term progress and success in shot put performance.
