Title:Sexual harassment of hospitality workers
Abstract:Sexual harassment represents unwanted and inappropriate behavior of sexual nature, which can include verbal, non-verbal, or physical forms. In hospitality establishments where workers are often in direct contact with people, the risk of sexual harassment is high. This can negatively affect mental well-being and reduce job satisfaction. The thesis explores the prevalence of sexual harassment among hospitality workers. We defined what sexual harassment is, what its consequences and the factors associated with sexual harassment, how victims respond to it, and the legal framework for addressing sexual harassments in Slovenia. The aim of the thesis was to examine the occurrence and perception of sexual harassment in hospitality settings, as well as to identify differences based on gender and the type of environment in which the venue is located. A survey was conducted with 91 hospitality workers, who responded based on their personal experiences. The findings show that sexual harassment in the hospitality industry is a common issue that negatively affects workers' well-being. Women are more frequently exposed to sexual harassment than men, which is partly due to their higher representation in the sector. The response to and consequences of sexual harassment depend on the individual and the frequency of the incidents. We found that there is no differences in the presence of sexual harassment between urban and rural areas. Based on the findings of our research, awareness - raising and prevention of sexual harassment of hospitality workers are necessary.
