Title:The impact of the lack of theoretical management knowledge of managers in the music idustry
Abstract:The music industry is a highly dynamic and changing environment in which the role of a music manager is crucial to the success of music performers. Despite the importance of their work, we question whether and to what extent music managers are equipped with theoretical management knowledge. In this thesis, we examined the impact of the lack of theoretical management knowledge among managers in the music industry, focusing on both basic theoretical management knowledge and the work of managers in the music industry and music management. The theoretical part presents the concept of management, its functions, and historical development. We also focused on the characteristics and competencies of managers and presented their training and performance evaluation. In the applied part, we used in-depth interviews to investigate whether the lack of theoretical management knowledge affects the work of music managers, to what extent, and whether they have management knowledge or have learned from practice. The results of the in-depth interviews show that most managers do not have formal education in management, but nevertheless work successfully on the basis of practical experience, acquaintances, and cooperation in well-functioning teams. Managers emphasize the importance of informal learning and experience sharing, and point out that theoretical management knowledge is not crucial for success. Based on the information obtained, we have also developed recommendations and advice for future managers in the music industry.
