Title:Work related stress in high school of economics X
Abstract:One of the key mechanisms that has enabled humans to survive throughout their existence is the way in which individuals respond to stimuli from their surroundings. Since prehistoric times, the stress mechanism, or our body's reaction to danger, has stimulated the so-called fight or flight response, which could mean the difference between life and death. Despite the fact that in modern times there are fewer cases where our lives would be directly threatened, people still encounter stress at every turn. People respond differently to the same stimuli, which is why stress as a response affects each of us differently. When we do not control stress, or stress controls us, more negative effects and consequences begin to appear, which is why stress, also called the "silent killer", is the cause of numerous diseases and one of the greatest dangers of modern times. We encounter stress both in our private lives and at the workplace, where we spend almost a quarter of our lives. Through the master's thesis, we wanted to learn more about and study stress, focusing on stress present in the work environment. In the theoretical part of the master's thesis, we first presented definitions by various authors who have studied stress. We presented different types of stress, as well as some models of experts and researchers, which they want to explain the mechanism of stress with. We listed and categorized possible stressors and highlighted physiological, psychological and behavioral symptoms of stress. From the perspective of the individual and the organization, we presented possible consequences and ways of dealing with stress. With the empirical work, we wanted to study stress in practice using the example of a selected high school. We were interested in how teachers at the X Secondary School of Economics deal with stress. Using an online questionnaire, we conducted a survey with which we previously set a domestic confirmation, or refuted it. Using tools for statistical data processing, we analyzed the answers obtained and presented the results. We were primarily interested in the symptoms and factors that cause the most stress in employees. We assumed that the experience of stress is significantly influenced by the time of year when employees are more or less exposed to stress, the nature of work, the difference between educational programs and length of service. We found that differences between educational programs and length of service do not affect the experience of stress, while the nature of work and different time periods during the year mean a greater stress burden for employees. At the end of the thesis, we provided some suggestions and starting points for effective and successful stress management.
