Abstract:Zaradi vse hitrejšega staranja prebivalstva ter vse večje digitalizacije družbe je digitalna vključenost starejših odraslih ključna za njihovo samostojnost, dostop do informacij, storitev in ohranjanje družbenih stikov v sodobni digitalni družbi. Ugotovitve kažejo, da večina starejših tehnologijo sicer uporablja redno in v različne namene, vendar pogosto z omejeno samozavestjo in občasno prisotno frustracijo.

Title:Enhancing software user experience for older adults
Abstract:Due to the rapidly aging population and the increasing digitalization of society, digital inclusion of older adults is essential for their independence, access to information and services, and for maintaining social connections in today’s digital world. The aim of this research was to explore and understand the preferences, challenges, and needs of older adults in using general-purpose software from a user experience perspective. A qualitative study was conducted among older adults in Slovenia, based on two user experience assessment methods from the field of Human-Computer Interaction. Through the analysis of semi-structured interviews, we identified key factors influencing the quality of their user experience with websites, web applications, and mobile applications. Findings show that while most older adults use technology regularly and for a variety of purposes, they often do so with limited confidence and a certain degree of frustration. Key barriers include lack of trust, privacy and security concerns, misleading content and intrusive ads, as well as cognitive limitations related to aging (information overload, memory challenges). Based on their expressed needs, we identified four fundamental characteristics that software for older users should possess: clarity, consistency, simplicity, and alignment with the real world. The study also highlights the key features that effective system-based help should include. Ultimately, the research emphasizes the need for designing more accessible, comprehensible, and adaptable digital solutions for older adults, which would contribute to their greater digital inclusion, quality of life, and independence.
