Title:Boxing and violence
Abstract:This thesis explores the impact of boxing as a combat sport on managing aggression, developing self-discipline, and fostering personal growth and social inclusion. The research was conducted using semi-structured interviews with ten individuals engaged in boxing at recreational, competitive, and coaching levels. The findings indicate that boxing has a positive effect on both the psychological resilience and physical strength of individuals. It helps participants manage impulsive behavior and contributes to the strengthening of their emotional stability. For many interviewees, boxing proved to be a safe space for emotional expression and personal development. They emphasized the importance of structured training, learning to respect rules and others, and the trainer taking on a mentoring role during the process. The study confirmed that boxing does not promote violence; on the contrary, with appropriate support, it helps to reduce it. The thesis presents various types of boxing and perspectives from athletes, recreational participants, and coaches. It also explores how boxing is perceived by people who are not involved in the sport, as well as the stereotypes and narratives surrounding it. The effectiveness of boxing as a tool for psychosocial development was confirmed, which is crucial in addressing negative stereotypes. One of the main findings of the thesis is that boxing is not merely a form of physical activity, but also an important means of personal development, where individuals learn perseverance, build self-confidence, and gradually gain deeper self-awareness through training.
