Title:Air experiments in preschool period
Abstract:Experimentation allows us to understand the world as a whole, while also introducing children to aspects that cannot be conveyed through words alone. The aim of the thesis is to explore children's knowledge about air, what they learn through experimentation, and how their thinking about air changes after completing the experiments. In the study, we conducted planned experiments on the topic of air with children aged five to six for four consecutive days. The interviews revealed that, at the beginning, the children already knew a lot about air. However, we observed they were unsure about all the places where it is located, which they learned during the activity. When predicting the outcomes of the experiments, the children were quite divided. They were able to explain the results of the simpler experiments, whereas in the more complex ones, the results proved more difficult to understand, so we provided explanations to them more frequently and in simpler terms. After the experiments, the children better understood that air exists not only outside the preschool, but also inside the preschool playroom. The children's answers were similar to those at the beginning of the study. We believe additional experiments could have further enhanced their knowledge.
