Abstract:Uvod: Demenca pomembno vpliva na kakovost življenja starejših oseb, zlasti v institucionalnem okolju. Vključeni so bili članki iz podatkovnih baz PubMed, CINAHL Ultimate, Web of Science in ScienceDirect. V končno analizo je bilo vključenih sedem člankov: dva sistematična pregleda, ena randomizirana kontrolirana raziskava, ena kvazi-eksperimentalna raziskava, dve kvalitativni raziskavi in ena študija primera.

Title:The impact of validation therapy on the quality of life of older people with dementia in an elderly home
Abstract:Introduction: Dementia significantly affects the quality of life of older people, especially in institutional settings. Validation therapy is a non-pharmacological approach based on empathy, validation of experiences, and respect for the inner reality of older people with dementia. The aim of the thesis was to determine how validation therapy affects the psychosocial well-being and behavioural symptoms of older people with dementia in nursing homes. Methods: The thesis was based on a review of the literature. Articles from the PubMed, CINAHL Ultimate, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect databases were included. Seven articles were included in the final analysis: two systematic reviews, one randomized controlled trial, one quasi-experimental study, two qualitative studies, and one case study. A narrative synthesis was performed. Results: Validation therapy has been shown to reduce behavioural disturbances and improve emotional stability, communication, and social inclusion. As a result, it also has a positive impact on formal and informal caregivers, primarily in the form of reduced stress, greater empathy, and better interpersonal relationships. Discussion and conclusion: Validation therapy has been shown to be an effective method for improving the quality of life of older people with dementia. The incorporation of emotionally oriented and respectful approaches leads to a more personalized treatment that significantly exceeds standard, routine approaches.
