Potrebne so nacionalne smernice in vključitev PrEP-a v javnozdravstvene programe.

Title:Effectiveness of HIV prophylaxis in men who have sex with men
Abstract:Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus infection remains a significant public health problem, particularly among men who have sex with men. Over the past decade, protection against exposure to the virus has emerged as an effective prevention strategy. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the effectiveness of prophylaxis in preventing HIV transmission among men who have sex with men. Methods: We conducted a literature review in the thesis according to PRISMA guidelines. A descriptive method was used to analyse and synthesise 11 studies selected based on the PIO approach. The articles were obtained from the PubMed, CINAHL, and Web of Science databases from 2015 to 2025. Results: Findings indicate that PrEP significantly reduces the risk of HIV transmission among MSM, with effectiveness rates strongly dependent on adherence, coverage, and targeting of high-risk groups. Modelling and clinical studies also confirm secondary effects such as lower prevalence and older age at infection. Discussion and conclusion: The effectiveness of PrEP has been confirmed, but its implementation in Slovenia requires systemic support, reduced stigma, and wider accessibility. National guidelines and the inclusion of PrEP in public health programs are needed.
