Title:Analysis of the electricity market in selected eu countries and assessment of the possibility of changing electricity suppliers
Abstract:Energy, as a complex economic sector, includes the production, distribution and use of electricity, which is a key factor in modern life. In my thesis, I research the electricity market by analyzing selected countries (Slovenia, Germany, Hungary, France and Finland). I am interested in the impact of the share of renewable energy sources (RES) on the price of electricity and how these factors are interconnected. I use Pearson's correlation coefficient to analyze the strength of the association between these variables, allowing for more detailed insight into these dynamics. The fundamental conclusions of the assignment show that a greater share of RES in electricity production not only affects prices but also lays the foundation for long-term sustainable supply. Nevertheless, in some countries, a higher share of RES leads to higher electricity prices, which can affect the competitiveness of suppliers. The sustainability orientation of the European Union further supports these efforts, as it imposes the obligation to achieve ambitious goals that focus on increasing the share of renewable energy sources in electricity production and the transition to carbon-free supply by 2050. These goals guide the policies of member states and influence the development of energy markets, which additionally strengthens the importance of researching the connection between RES and electricity prices in different countries. In addition to the market analysis, the task also focuses on consumer awareness of the possibilities of changing electricity suppliers and on the analysis of existing providers on the Slovenian market. With the research, I want to contribute to the understanding of the factors on the basis of which consumers make decisions about choosing a supplier.
