Abstract:Magistrsko delo obravnava šibko obliko hipoteze učinkovitosti kapitalskih trgov na izbranih trgih Srednje in Vzhodne Evrope.

Title:Testing the weak form of the efficient market hypothesis on selected central and eastern european markets
Abstract:The master's thesis examines the weak form of the efficient market hypothesis in selected capital markets of Central and Eastern Europe. The theoretical part presents the development of the hypothesis, its key criticisms, and the role of capital markets in transition economies. Particular attention is given to the impact of privatization strategies, investor protection, and the role of foreign investors in shaping and functioning of the selected capital markets. The analysis also considers indicators of market development, such as market capitalization, the number of listed companies, trading volume, and turnover ratio, which provide a more comprehensive assessment of market liquidity and scope. The empirical part applies selected statistical tests to examine the compliance of the observed markets with the weak-form efficient market hypothesis. The results indicate that the level of efficiency varies across periods and according to the degree of liquidity, with more liquid markets exhibiting greater consistency with the weak form of the efficient market hypothesis.
