Uporabljeni so bili vključitveni in izključitveni kriteriji.

Title:Effect of snus use in patients with periodontal disease
Abstract:Introduction: Periodontitis is a common chronic inflammatory disease that can lead to tooth loss. In recent years, the use of snus—a smokeless tobacco product—has been increasing, especially among young adults. This thesis aimed to investigate the impact of snus use on the progression of periodontal disease in this population. Methods: A literature review of scientific and peer-reviewed literature was conducted using the PIO approach. Multiple databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, etc.) were searched based on defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. A narrative synthesis method was used to analyse and summarise the data. Results: Most of the seven included studies reported an association between long-term snus use and gingival recession, attachment loss, and changes in the subgingival microbiota. Elevated levels of key periodontal pathogens such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, and Treponema denticola were observed among snus users. Discussion and conclusion: Snus use appears to be a significant risk factor for the progression of periodontal disease in young adults. Due to methodological limitations and study heterogeneity, further longitudinal research is necessary. Preventive strategies and public health education targeting young users are highly recommended.
