Title:How the development of crowdfunding platforms is affecting investment by individuals
Abstract:The thesis titled “How the Development of Crowdfunding Platforms Affects Investment Behaviour of Individuals” explores how modern technologies and digitalization influence changes in individual investment behaviour. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the main characteristics of crowdfunding, including its different models – donation-based, reward-based, lending-based, and equity-based – as well as a historical overview of platform development, focusing on examples such as Kickstarter, Seedrs, and GoFundMe. The analysis also covers the advantages and disadvantages of this alternative financing model, highlighting greater accessibility, lower entry thresholds, and increased transparency, as well as certain risks related to misuse, lack of regulation, and emotionally driven decisions. Special attention is given to the impact of technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning algorithms, blockchain, and smart contracts, which contribute to the efficiency and security of campaigns. The empirical part of the thesis is based on a survey conducted among Slovenian users, which enabled a quantitative evaluation of the hypotheses. The results confirm that younger individuals are more familiar with crowdfunding, that social proximity is a significant factor in project support, that platforms contribute to a sense of security, and that crowdfunding represents a meaningful alternative to bank financing for many. This thesis thus provides insight into the dynamic development of the investment landscape and the evolving role of individual investors in the digital age.
