Abstract:V magistrskem delu z naslovom Predznanje učencev prvega razreda na področju začetnih bralnih in pisnih zmožnosti pred sistematičnim opismenjevanjem smo preučevali šest temeljnih področij zgodnje pismenosti, in sicer: poimenovanje slik in določanje začetnega ter končnega glasu v besedah, prepoznavanje in poimenovanje velikih tiskanih črk, branje posameznih besed, branje in razumevanje enostavnega besedila, zapis posameznih črk ter zapis posameznih besed. V teoretičnem delu smo podrobneje preučili govorni razvoj in sporazumevalne sposobnosti otroka. Posebej smo izpostavili pomen zgodnjega prepoznavanja predbralnih in predpisalnih sposobnosti kot ključnih dejavnikov za uspešno vključevanje otrok v proces sistematičnega opismenjevanja. V empiričnem delu smo oblikovali avtorski diagnostični instrument in z njim preverili izbrana temeljna področja zgodnje pismenosti na vzorcu učencev treh prvih razredov osnovne šole podravske regije ter s pomočjo deskriptivne in inferenčne statistike analizirali pridobljene rezultate. Rezultati so pokazali, da učenci ob vstopu v prvi razred izkazujejo različno razvitost posameznih zmožnosti. Ugotovljene so bile statistično značilne povezave med poimenovanjem slik in drugimi preverjanimi področji, razen v primerjavi z uspešnostjo branja in razumevanja enostavnega besedila. Predlagamo uporabo avtorskega diagnostičnega instrumenta kot podpornega orodja pri individualiziranem načrtovanju sistematičnega opismenjevanja.

Title:Assessing first-grade students' early reading and writing skills before systematic literacy instruction
Abstract:The master's thesis Assessing First-Grade Students' Early Reading and Writing Skills Before Systematic Literacy Instruction examines six key domains of emergent literacy skills: naming pictures and identifying the initial and final sounds in words, recognizing and naming uppercase letters, reading individual words, reading and understanding a simple text, writing individual letters, and writing individual words. The theoretical framework explores children’s speech development, communication abilities, and vocabulary acquisition, with particular emphasis on the early identification of pre-reading and pre-writing skills as key factors for the successful inclusion of children in the process of systematic literacy instruction. In the empirical part, a diagnostic instrument was developed to assess selected key domains of emergent literacy skills in a sample of children from three first-grade classes in the Podravje region of Slovenia. The collected data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. The results indicated that children entering the first grade demonstrated varied development across individual reading- and writing-related skills. Statistically significant correlations were found between picture naming and other assessed domains, except in comparison with reading and understanding a simple text. The study proposes the use of the diagnostic instrument as a supportive tool for individualized planning of systematic literacy instruction.
