Abstract:Forenzična psihiatrična zdravstvena nega velja za visoko tvegano in stresno področje, kjer so zaposleni pogosto izpostavljeni verbalnemu in fizičnemu nasilju pacientov, pri čemer je verbalna zloraba najpogostejša. V magistrski nalogi smo obravnavali psihološke vidike dela negovalnega osebja v Enoti forenzične psihiatrije Maribor, s poudarkom na psihološki odpornosti, izgorelosti, zadovoljstvu z življenjem in izpostavljenosti nasilju.

Title:Psychological aspects of the work of nursing staff in the forensic psychiatry unit
Abstract:Forensic psychiatric nursing is considered a high-risk and stressful field, where employees are often exposed to verbal and physical abuse from patients, with verbal abuse being the most common. Nevertheless, most nursing staff report low levels of stress and burnout and satisfaction with life. A key protective factor is psychological resilience, which enables effective coping with violence and reduces the impact of work stress on well-being. In our master's thesis, we examined the psychological aspects of the work of nursing staff at the Maribor Forensic Psychiatry Unit, with an emphasis on psychological resilience, burnout, life satisfaction, and exposure to violence. Eleven participants took part in the study. We found that the participants were satisfied with their lives and achieved a moderate level of psychological resilience, a moderate level compassion satisfaction, a low level of burnout, and a low level of secondary traumatic stress. Most participants reported frequent verbal abuse by patients, while physical abuse was less common but still present. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the psychological aspects of working in forensic psychiatry and provides data that is rare in Slovenia. The results can serve as a basis for the development of targeted interventions that strengthen resilience and reduce the negative effects of occupational stress. Despite limitations due to the small sample size, the study opens up the possibility for further research on larger samples and the inclusion of longitudinal approaches to monitor changes over time.
