Storilci trgovine z ljudmi izkoriščajo omenjene ranljivosti s prevaro in manipulacijo.

Title:Transgender people as victims of trafficking in human beings
Abstract:The recognition of different gender identities, including transgenderism, poses a new challenge to today's society, including in the security sector. In this master's thesis, we explore the issue of transgender people being victims of human trafficking. Anyone can be a victim of human trafficking, regardless of their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity. However, there are certain vulnerabilities that can increase the likelihood of becoming a victim. These include poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, problematic family circumstances, pre-existing mental health conditions and so-called survival sex. Human traffickers exploit these vulnerabilities through deception and manipulation. The biggest limitation of our work is the lack of professional literature on transgender people as victims of human trafficking. We analysed the work of non-governmental organisations in Slovenia, Spain, and Italy that support victims of human trafficking. However, the unresponsiveness of Spanish NGOs prevented us from conducting interviews and gaining an in-depth understanding of the phenomenon, as was possible in Slovenia and Italy. We found that most of the victims were women who were victims of sexual exploitation. Men are primarily victims of labour exploitation, while children are primarily victims of forced marriage. Of the analysed non-governmental organisations, at least one had a case involving a transgender person who was a victim of human trafficking. In most cases, these were transgender women who were victims of prostitution and sexual exploitation. Our research revealed that the analysed non-governmental organisations lack sufficient financial resources, highlighting the need for education and awareness programmes for professionals and the general public. Victims of human trafficking require various forms of assistance, including medical, psychological, financial and legal support, which non-governmental organisations cannot provide alone. For this reason, combatting human trafficking requires inter-institutional and international cooperation.
