Abstract:V okviru diplomskega dela smo raziskali sintezo in uporabo vanilin metakrilata kot bio-osnovanega monomera za pripravo trajnostnih, visoko poroznih polimernih materialov. Vanilin metakrilat smo sintetizirali iz vanilina in anhidrida metakrilne kisline ob prisotnosti katalizatorja 4-(dimetilamino)piridina v inertni atmosferi. Nastali produkt smo okarakterizirali z jedrsko magnetno resonanco, s čimer smo potrdili uspešnost esterifikacije ter strukturo sintetizirane spojine. Vanilin metakrilat smo uporabili kot osnovni monomer za pripravo poroznih kopolimerov s tremi različnimi zamreževali: etilen glikol dimetakrilatom, 1,6-heksandiol diakrilatom in divinil adipatom. Polimere smo sintetizirali s postopkom fotopolimerizacije emulzij z visokim deležem notranje faze.

Title:Obtaining sustainable polymer materials from vanillin methacrylate
Abstract:In this work, we investigated the synthesis and application of vanillin methacrylate as a bio-based monomer for the production of sustainable, highly porous polymeric materials. Vanillin methacrylate was synthesised from vanillin and methacrylic anhydride in the presence of the catalyst 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine under an inert atmosphere. The resulting product was characterised by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), which confirmed the successful esterification and the structure of the synthesised compound. Vanillin methacrylate was used as the main monomer for the preparation of porous copolymers with three different crosslinkers: ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA), 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA), and divinyl adipate (DVA). The polymers were synthesised by high internal phase emulsion (HIPE) photopolymerisation. The internal phase of the emulsions consisted of an aqueous solution of calcium chloride hexahydrate, Hypermer B246 was used as surfactant, and Irgacure 819 served as photoinitiator. The effects of the monomer ratios on the morphology and structure of the resulting materials were investigated. The synthesised polyHIPE monoliths were characterised by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) , and BET surface analysis. The results showed that the synthesised materials exhibited either an open-cell or partially open-cell morphology. A pronounced open-cell morphology was achieved when EGDMA and HDDA were used, while polymers with DVA showed pore formation, but the pores were less pronounced open-cell compared to the other two crosslinkers. FTIR analysis confirmed the successful incorporation of the monomers into the polymer network, and BET porosimetry showed that the specific surface area of the materials increased with the crosslinker content.
