Title:Analysis of security and privacy in the use of iot devices by end users
Abstract:The purpose of this thesis was to analyse the awareness and behaviour of end-users when using IoT devices in terms of security and privacy, and to develop recommendations for their safer use. The study focuses on the Internet of Things, with the theoretical part presenting its operation, architecture, common vulnerabilities, and approaches to data protection. The empirical part consisted of a survey among IoT device users, which revealed that most respondents understand the importance of security, yet are often unaware of the extent of data collection, privacy policies, and do not implement key protective measures, such as changing default passwords or enabling multi-factor authentication. Based on the findings from the literature and empirical research, users were recommended to increase awareness, perform regular device updates, use strong passwords, and limit the sharing of personal data; and manufacturers were recommended to use secure-by-design principles, transparent communication, lightweight security protocols, and perform regular updates. The conclusion emphasises that secure IoT usage can only be achieved through active cooperation between users and manufacturers, as well as the integration of security practices already at the device design stage.
