Title:An analysis of retirement expectations in the United States
Abstract:Retirement is a period that a worker reaches at the end of their working life. However, in order to maintain the standard of living from their active working years, a person must plan for retirement in the years leading up to it. The retirement expectations of American consumers are influenced by economic, social, political and other factors that can play crucial role in retirement planning. To better prepare for life after retirement, individuals choose among various investments and additional sources of income that could provide them with extra financial resources during retirement. In the empirical part of the thesis, we focused more closely on the retirement expectations of American consumers. We divided Americans into demographic groups based on gender, level of education, income level and age groups. During the observed period retirement expectations were strongly affected by the Covid-19 crisis, which turned the retirement expectations of many Americans upside down. The main findings were that the share of people expecting to be employed after the ages of 62 and 67 is declining, while the Covid-19 crisis caused an increase in the share of American consumers who expect to work full-time after reaching the ages of 62 and 67.
