Title:The role of physical activity on the mental health of teachers
Abstract:The master's thesis focuses on exploring the relationship between physical activity and the mental health of teachers, who represent one of the most burdened professional groups. The theoretical part provides a broader conceptual framework of physical activity, mental health, and the factors influencing individuals’ psychosocial well-being, with a special emphasis on teachers as a specific population. In the empirical part, a qualitative research method was applied through interviews with six primary and secondary school teachers of different ages, working environments, and personal lifestyles. The aim of the study was to determine whether teachers who dedicate more time to physical activity report better mental health, lower stress levels, higher self-esteem, and greater work motivation. Particular attention was also given to the question of how physical activity affects teachers' professional performance and long-term sustainability in carrying out their pedagogical role. The analysis of the interviews reveals that physical activity significantly contributed to greater resilience to stressful situations, improved management of emotional burdens, and an overall sense of satisfaction in both personal and professional life. The findings confirm that physical activity is a key protective factor that substantially contributes to the psychosocial well-being of teachers. Moreover, the study has broader implications: it may serve as a basis for the development of various support programs for teachers, such as workplace health promotion initiatives, organized sports activities, or stress management programs. It also highlights the need for systemic measures within educational institutions to encourage employees' physical activity as part of strategies for strengthening mental health, preventing burnout, and enhancing professional efficiency.
