V teoretičnem delu so predstavljene temeljne razlage inflacije, in sicer stroškovna, povpraševalna in inercijska inflacija ter nekatere druge alternativne razlage njenega nastanka.

Title:Responsiveness of commodity markets to inflation dynamics
Abstract:Inflation is one of the key macroeconomic variables, as it simultaneously serves as both an indicator and a driver of economic (in)stability, household purchasing power, and developments in financial and real markets. Commodity markets represent one of the important channels of its influence, often acting either as transmitters of inflationary pressures or as indicators of future inflationary trends. We analyse the relationship between inflation dynamics and price movements in selected commodity markets and assess the extent to which inflation affects the prices of primary commodities. The theoretical part presents the fundamental explanations of inflation (cost-push, demand-pull, and inertial inflation) along with several alternative perspectives on its origins. This is followed by an overview of inflation dynamics in the United States over the period 1975–2024 and in the European Union from 1996–2024, showing that the average annual inflation rate in the United States during 1996–2024 was higher than in the European Union. In addition, we review relevant empirical literature addressing the two-way relationship between commodity prices and inflationary movements. The empirical section focuses on the econometric estimation of the effect of inflation dynamics on the prices of selected primary commodities. The results confirm that inflation in both the United States and the European Union has a positive and statistically significant impact on commodity prices. Moreover, the findings suggest that an increase in the general price level in the European Union triggers a stronger response in commodity prices compared to a similar increase in the United States.
