Title:The impact of TikTok on youth self-image
Abstract:The thesis used a systematic review to explore how Tik Tok affects the self-image of adolescents and how to guide them towards a healthier and more responsible use of the platform. The aim was to explore whether the use of Tik Tok can also have a positive impact on adolescents, and what the role and supervision of parents is when adolescents watch inappropriate content daily and without supervision, which negatively affects their mental health and well-being. Given that Tik Tok is one of the most used social networks today, many people are not aware that uncontrolled and excessive use of Tik Tok can negatively affect adolescents. This is especially reflected in their low body image and poor self-esteem. In the theoretical part, the concepts of Tik Tok and low body image were explained for easier understanding. The methodology of the work was presented below, and which criteria were included and excluded in the systematic literature review. Through a systematic literature review, mainly foreign literature was discovered. The analysis of selected articles showed that excessive use and increasing exposure to inappropriate content negatively affect the mood and health of adolescents. Influencers on Tik Tok, by displaying beauty standards and promoting unhealthy eating habits, create increasing pressure on girls and increasing desire for social belonging. In addition to having to change their appearance and their beliefs for social belonging, girls struggle with a range of other mental distress, such as self-harm, eating disorders, body dissatisfaction, restrictive dieting, feelings of inferiority, and changing their own personality. After the analysis and results of the systematic literature review, a discussion and answers to the research question were presented.
