Abstract:Hitro napredujoča tehnologija, zlasti na področju umetne inteligence in avtomatiziranega odločanja, bistveno prispeva k eksponentnemu povečanju količine dostopnih podatkov. To odpira številne pravne izzive in narekuje potrebo po prilagajanju obstoječih zakonodajnih okvirov. Umetna inteligenca omogoča obsežno zbiranje in poglobljeno analizo podatkov iz različnih virov. Med relevantne primere sodobnih tehnologij spadajo tehnologija za prepoznavo obrazov, računalniški vid, deepfakes, personalizirano oglaševanje, sistemi za samodejno prepoznavo registrskih tablic, avtonomna vozila in internet stvari. Takšna raba tehnologije odpira pomembna etična in pravna vprašanja, zlasti glede zakonitosti, varnosti in transparentnosti obdelave osebnih podatkov.

Title:The impact of artificial intelligence on the protection of personal data
Abstract:Rapidly advancing technology, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence and automated decision-making, significantly contributes to the exponential growth of accessible data. This raises numerous legal challenges and necessitates the adaptation of existing legislative frameworks. Artificial intelligence enables extensive collection and in-depth analysis of data from various sources. Relevant examples of modern technologies include facial recognition, computer vision, deepfakes, personalized advertising, automatic license plate recognition systems, autonomous vehicles, and the Internet of Things. Such use of technology raises important ethical and legal questions, particularly with regard to the lawfulness, security, and transparency of personal data processing. For this reason, it becomes essential to understand the impact of artificial intelligence on the right to privacy and personal data protection. A comprehensive understanding of this technological phenomenon also requires solid knowledge of the legal framework, both at the international level and at the level of the European Union. Only in this way can we understand which rights we are entitled to, which data may be processed, and which risks threaten security, fundamental rights, and other societal interests. This master’s thesis presents the development of artificial intelligence and its impact on data processing, highlighting the key challenges of modern technology. Special emphasis is placed on the legal framework for the protection of personal data and privacy, with a focus on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Artificial Intelligence Act.
