Abstract:Čustva so tesno prepletena z našim vedenjem, kar se jasno odraža v prehranjevalnih navadah.

Title:Feeding my emotions: understanding the relationship between emotions and eating based on food cue reactivity
Abstract:Emotions are closely linked to our behaviour, which in turn is evident in our eating habits. People do not consume food only in response to physical hunger, but also within emotional contexts. Such emotional eating can be problematic, as it can lead to excessive food intake and adverse health consequences. The primary aim of this master’s thesis was to examine the relationship between emotions and eating with a particular focus on whether emotional states function as significant predictors within this relationship. Additionally, we were interested in whether this relationship is moderated by an individual’s trait emotional eating and difficulties in emotion regulation. Our research was grounded in the food cue reactivity paradigm, which was complemented by questionnaires of emotionality (PANAS), eating behaviour (DEBQ), and emotion regulation (DERS-16) in accordance with the constructs of interest. Participants completed an EEG-experiment in which they rated their craving for displayed visual food stimuli while their brain activity was recorded simultaneously. In a sample of 58 young adults, we observed some specific effects of positive emotional states, however, we did not confirm an overall predictive effect of emotions on food cue reactivity, nor the moderating roles of trait emotional eating and emotion regulation difficulties. Despite the absence of the expected conclusions, the study provides added value by separately addressing positive and negative emotional states and by integrating both neurophysiological and subjective measures of food cue reactivity, while also accounting for the caloric value of stimuli. Such a differentiated approach offers a more nuanced insight into the dynamics of the relationship between emotions and eating, while the observed effects of positive emotional states suggest that they may have a more prominent role in understanding emotional eating.
