Abstract:	V sodobni psihologiji se čedalje več raziskovalne pozornosti namenja osebnostnim lastnostim, ki poleg socialno nezaželenih vidikov izražajo manipulativne, egoistične in antisocialne tendence, med katerimi posebej izstopa tako imenovana temna triada. Namen raziskave je bil preučiti povezanost med lastnostmi temne triade (narcizmom, psihopatijo in makiavelizmom), empatijo (kognitivno in čustveno) ter čustveno manipulacijo (zaznano sposobnostjo in pripravljenostjo za čustveno manipulacijo), ob upoštevanju razlik med spoloma in med starostnimi obdobji. Posebna pozornost je bila namenjena vlogi kognitivne empatije kot možnega mediacijskega dejavnika v odnosu med izraženostjo temne triade in čustveno manipulacijo. V raziskavi je sodelovalo 194 udeležencev_k, starih med 18 in 44 let (M = 26,84; SD = 7,19; Ž = 79,4 %). Udeleženci_ke so izpolnili Vprašalnik temne triade (SD3), Lestvico bazične empatije (BES) in Lestvico čustvene manipulacije (EM). Rezultati so pokazali, da se je čustvena empatija negativno povezovala z vsemi tremi lastnostmi temne triade. Narcizem ni povezan s kognitivno empatijo, medtem ko sta makiavelizem in psihopatija negativno povezana s to obliko empatije. Poleg tega so se lastnosti temne triade dosledno pozitivno povezovale s čustveno manipulacijo, tako na ravni zaznane sposobnosti kot pripravljenosti. Mediacijske analize so razkrile, da kognitivna empatija ne mediira odnosa med narcizmom oziroma makiavelizmom in čustveno manipulacijo. Pri psihopatiji pa smo zaznali delno mediacijo: psihopatija se pozitivno povezuje z zaznano sposobnostjo in pripravljenostjo za manipulacijo, hkrati se pa negativno povezuje s kognitivno empatijo. Kognitivna empatija pa je bila nato povezana z nekoliko nižjo zaznano sposobnostjo in pripravljenostjo za čustveno manipulacijo. Kognitivna empatija se torej kaže kot zaviralni, ne pa kot podporni mediacijski dejavnik. Analize razlik med spoloma so pokazale, da sta psihopatija in narcizem višje izražena pri moških, medtem ko pri makiavelizmu razlik ni bilo. Glede starosti je narcizem pogosteje izražen v mladi odrasli dobi, makiavelizem pa v nastajajoči odraslosti, medtem ko psihopatija ni pokazala razlik. Raziskava predstavlja pomemben prispevek k razumevanju povezav med temno triado, empatijo in čustveno manipulacijo, saj kot prva sistematično preučuje mediacijsko vlogo kognitivne empatije. Ugotovitve imajo teoretičen pomen za razumevanje osebnostnih dejavnikov v medosebni dinamiki ter aplikativno vrednost na kliničnem in organizacijskem področju.

Title:	Dark emphaty: Is cognitive empathy a Mediator of the relationship between the dark triad and emotional manipulation?
Abstract:	In contemporary psychology, increasing research attention is devoted to personality traits that, beyond being socially undesirable, reflect manipulative, egoistic, and antisocial tendencies, most notably those encompassed by the dark triad. The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between dark triad traits (narcissism, psychopathy, and machiavellianism), empathy (cognitive and affective), and emotional manipulation (perceived ability and willingness), while also considering gender and age differences. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of cognitive empathy as a potential mediating factor in the relationship between dark triad traits and emotional manipulation. The study included 194 participants aged between 18 and 44 years (M = 26,84; SD = 7,19; 79,4% female). Participants completed the Short Dark Triad Questionnaire (SD3), the Basic Empathy Scale (BES), and the Emotional Manipulation Scale (EM). Results showed that narcissism was not related to cognitive empathy, whereas machiavellianism and psychopathy were negatively associated with this dimension; affective empathy, in turn, was negatively related to all three dark triad traits. Furthermore, dark triad traits were consistently positively associated with emotional manipulation, both in terms of perceived ability and willingness. Mediation analyses revealed that cognitive empathy did not mediate the relationship between narcissism or machiavellianism and emotional manipulation. For psychopathy, however, a partial mediation was detected: psychopathy was positively associated with both perceived ability and willingness to manipulate, while also being negatively associated with cognitive empathy. Cognitive empathy was then associated with a slightly lower perceived ability and willingness to engage in emotional manipulation. Cognitive empathy thus emerged as an inhibitory rather than a supportive mediating factor. Gender analyses indicated higher levels of psychopathy and narcissism among men, while no gender differences were found for machiavellianism. Age-related analyses showed higher narcissism in young adulthood compared to emerging adulthood, whereas machiavellianism was higher in emerging adulthood; psychopathy showed no significant age differences. This study makes an important contribution to understanding the interplay between the dark triad, empathy, and emotional manipulation, as it is the first to systematically examine the mediating role of cognitive empathy in this context. The findings hold theoretical relevance for understanding personality factors in interpersonal dynamics and practical implications for clinical and organizational settings.
