Title:Food Safety Knowledge Among Lower Secondary Level Elementary School Students and an Innovative Approach to Teaching Food Safety Practices Through Games
Abstract:This master's thesis presents a comprehensive study of food safety awareness among upper primary school students in Slovenia. To facilitate the study, a structured questionnaire was developed and completed by 1,178 students from different primary schools in the country. The data analysis revealed that the students' knowledge of food safety is generally insufficient, with female students having a higher level of knowledge on average than their male counterparts. In addition, a didactic board game entitled "Safe Food – Our Shared Responsibility: From Farm to Fork" was developed. The aim of the game was to introduce food safety concepts to students in an interactive and student-friendly way and to assess its impact on their knowledge. A comparative analysis of the results obtained before and after the game showed a statistically significant improvement in students’ knowledge. This confirmed the effectiveness of the game as an educational tool to promote awareness and understanding of food safety among primary school students at the selected school.
