Title:Healthcare providers' knowledge of wound dressings and the relationship with the quality of wound care
Abstract:Introduction: Nurses’ knowledge of modern wound dressings is essential for high-quality wound care, as it affects healing rates, complication prevention, and patient satisfaction. The level of knowledge is associated with education, work experience, and workplace setting, yet clinical practice often lags behind established guidelines. Methods: A systematic review of scientific and professional literature, from the last 10 years, was conducted in the databases SAGE Journals, PubMed, and Wiley Online Library, as well as through the Google Scholar search engine. The review followed the PRISMA guidelines, and the included studies were analyzed using evaluation tables, critical quality appraisal, and thematic analysis. Results: A total of 18 studies were included in the analysis. Findings revealed that higher education, longer work experience, and targeted training significantly improve knowledge and practice. Nursing leadership plays a key role in ensuring conditions for ongoing education, monitoring care quality, and involving nurses in wound care decision-making. Discussion and conclusion: Continuous professional development of healthcare providers is essential to improve the quality wound care. The findings of this review provide a foundation for developing targeted educational programs and policies that promote safe, high-quality, and evidence-based care, contributing to better clinical outcomes and greater patient satisfaction.
