V magistrskem delu smo analizirali priseljevanje v 16 izbranih evropskih držav (Avstrija, Belgija, Češka, Danska, Francija, Hrvaška, Italija, Madžarska, Nemčija, Poljska, Portugalska, Romunija, Slovaška, Slovenija, Španija, Švedska) v obdobju med letoma 2010 in 2022. Povprečne plače so imele šibkejši vpliv, medtem ko indeks zaznave korupcije ni pokazal pomembne statistične povezave z imigracijskimi tokovi.

Title:Understanding migration: a panel data study of economic and institutional factors in european countries
Abstract:Migration is one of the most pressing social and political issues today, with major implications for both countries of origin and countries that receive new migrants. In the European context, this phenomenon is particularly pronounced due to economic disparities, demographic challenges and institutional specificities between member countries. It is precisely because of its complexity that migration raises many questions about which factors most influence individuals' decisions to migrate and how countries can design effective policies to manage it. In this master’s thesis, we analyzed immigration in 16 selected European countries (Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden) between 2010 and 2022, focusing on economic and institutional factors (economic growth, unemployment, average wages, human rights index, public health expenditure and corruption perception index). The results of the analysis show that economic growth, low unemployment, improved healthcare and higher human rights have a positive and statistically significant impact on immigration. Average wages had a weaker impact, while the corruption perceptions index did not show a significant statistical relationship with immigration flows. Methodological tests confirmed that the fixed effects model is best suited to deal with heterogeneity between countries, which strengthens the reliability of the results obtained. The findings of the thesis thus contribute to a better understanding of migration processes in Europe, suggesting that economic stability and investment in social infrastructure are key factors for the attractiveness of countries. For policy makers, it is an incentive to ensure that balanced migration policies are not only based on economic measures, but also on strengthening institutional quality and social safety nets.
