Abstract:Turizem močno vpliva na emisije toplogrednih plinov zaradi visoke porabe fosilnih goriv, ki so glavni vir energije v tem sektorju.

Title:Carbon footprint assessment of tourism in Slovenia : results from the CRP model 2023 for year 2019
Abstract:Tourism has a significant impact on greenhouse gas emissions due to the high consumption of fossil fuels, which are the main source of energy in this sector. Burning fossil fuels releases CO2 and other long-lived greenhouse gases such as methane, nitrous oxide and hydrofluorocarbons. On average, the tourism sector contributes 8% to global CO2 emissions, with air travel accounting for the largest share at 40%, followed by cars (32%) and accommodation (21%). Cruises account for 1.5% of emissions. A significant proportion of emissions are also caused by the consumption of food and drink, the construction of infrastructure and services. The results of various carbon footprint models show that energy consumption and emissions vary greatly depending on the type of trip, from negligible for cycling to the highest emissions for air travel and cruises. Carbon footprint models for tourism activities vary widely in terms of the amount of input data and the purpose of the calculation, making comparisons and accurate assessments difficult. For future analyses of the carbon footprint of tourism, it is important to develop a standardised and accessible model for calculating the carbon footprint of tourism, at least at national if not EU level.
