Title:Cultural transformation: redeveloping the village core of Podkum into center of social life : magistrsko delo
Abstract:The master’s thesis addresses the revitalization of the village core in Podkum, focusing on the renewal of two degraded buildings – the cooperative hall and the former theatre – as well as the design of a new village square. The aim of the proposal is to transform abandoned structures into contemporary multifunctional spaces that will support cultural, social, and educational activities, while simultaneously strengthening local identity and encouraging intergenerational connections. Particular attention is given to the design of an open public space – the square – as a central meeting place for daily village life and as a venue for larger events, markets, and public gatherings. The programmatic content is based on the actual needs of users, with emphasis placed on improving connectivity, enhancing accessibility, and ensuring spatial adaptability. The project demonstrates how respectful renovation within a local context can establish a modern and sustainable village core that reclaims its role as the heart of community life.
