Digitalna preobrazba v cestnem tovornem prometu predstavlja pomemben dejavnik konkurenčnosti, saj omogoča boljši nadzor nad procesi, večjo sledljivost in zmanjšanje administrativnih obremenitev. Nezadostna izkoriščenost podatkov, omejena analitika in nizka stopnja avtomatizacije dodatno zmanjšujejo učinkovitost operativnega delovanja.

Title:Digital transformation: a case study of transport company x
Abstract:The master’s thesis examines the challenges and opportunities of digital transformation in a medium-sized Slovenian transport company faced with increasing market demands, the need for higher operational efficiency, and growing pressure to adopt modern digital solutions. Digital transformation in road freight transport represents a key source of competitiveness, enabling improved process control, enhanced traceability, and reduced administrative workload. However, many small and medium-sized transport companies lag in the implementation of integrated information systems, limiting their development potential. The research therefore explores how digital transformation affects the operations of the selected company and to what extent the current situation reflects the digital maturity of the transport sector. The analysis of the current state is based on seven dimensions of digital transformation: culture, employees, organization, technologies, processes, services, and customers. A medium level of digital maturity has been identified, reflected in an incomplete digital strategy, insufficient employee training, fragmented use of digital tools, and the absence of an integrated ERP system. Many key processes—from transport planning to document management—are still partially manual, which increases the risk of errors, complicates cost control, and reduces agility in responding to customer needs. Insufficient utilization of data limited analytical capabilities, and a low level of automation further diminish the efficiency of operational performance. Based on these findings, a comprehensive digital transformation plan is proposed, including the implementation of an ERP system, the digitalisation of documentation and operational processes, the establishment of a unified data environment, increased automation, and the use of advanced analytical tools. Special emphasis is placed on developing digital competences among employees, as human factors represent a significant barrier to change. The proposed measures include gradual introduction of digital solutions, improved communication, integration of transport management systems, and optimisation of administrative and operational tasks. The results confirm that a comprehensive digital transformation would enable significant time and cost savings, increased productivity, and higher service quality. Digitalisation enhances fleet utilisation, reduces administrative burdens, and strengthens decision-making support, contributing to greater adaptability and competitiveness. The conclusion emphasises that digital transformation is not merely a technological project but a holistic process requiring coordinated organisational, human, and technological changes that form the foundation for long-term growth and successful integration into modern, data-driven logistics networks.
