Abstract:Strah nas spremlja v našem vsakodnevnem življenju. Starejši prebivalci občutijo večjo ranljivost zaradi telesne omejenosti in socialne izolacije.

Title:Fear of crime in the municipality of Črnomelj
Abstract:Fear accompanies us in our everyday lives. It is an innate feeling present from birth, intended to protect us. This thesis examined fear of crime in the municipality of Črnomelj as a subjective sense of threat that does not necessarily arise from direct victimisation but from perceptions of the environment, personal experiences, and indirect information. The research followed a quantitative approach using an online survey that included 143 residents of different ages and both sexes. The findings show that fear of crime is greater among women and older people. Women are more concerned about burglaries, thefts, and assaults, and they often adjust their behaviour and avoid certain places. Older residents experience greater vulnerability due to physical limitations and social isolation. Strong neighbourhood ties and a sense of belonging to the community reduce residents’ fear of crime. Respondents highlighted vandalism, poor lighting, and various forms of social disorder as factors linked to their perception of safety. It was also emphasised that the sense of threat often stems from a broader social context, particularly media content. The results point to the need to eliminate visible physical disorder, increase the presence of security services, and promote community cohesion as key measures that positively influence residents’ sense of safety in the municipality of Črnomelj.
