Metode: Izveden je bil pregled tuje literature v podatkovnih bazah: PubMed, CINAHL Ultimate in Web of Science z naslednjimi ključnimi besedami: shizofrenija, stigma, stigmatizacija, diskriminacija.

Title:Coping with the consequences of stigmatization in the daily lives of people with schizophrenia
Abstract:Introduction: Schizophrenia is an incurable mental disorder, and it is strongly associated with stigmatization, which affects the quality of life of people with schizophrenia. The purpose of the final thesis was to determine how people with schizophrenia deal with the consequences of stigmatization in everyday life. Methods: A review of foreign literature was conducted in the following databases: Pub Med, CINAHL Ultimate, and Web of Science, with the following keywords: schizophrenia, stigmatization, discrimination. The time frame was not limited. Results: Out of a total of 984 reviewed studies, 9 were included in the final analysis. It was found that stigma associated with individuals with schizophrenia is highly pronounced, and it influences all aspects of their daily lives, including the outcome of treatment. Caregivers also face stigma. Discussion and Conclusion: The stigmatization of mental disorders is very common in society, especially when it comes to schizophrenia. Stigma affects many areas of people’s lives. Stigma prevents them from seeking help or continuing treatment, which worsens their condition. It also limits employment opportunities, which lowers their economic status. Due to societal prejudice people feel socially isolated, and self-stigmatization is present. Family members are also affected by the stigma. Future research should focus on reducing stigma and promoting better social inclusion of people with schizophrenia. Further research should focus on de-stigmatizing sufferers and designing interventions to provide greater psychological support for sufferers.
