Abstract:Namen naloge je bil raziskati, kako muslimanke v Sloveniji interpretirajo islamske verske prakse. Nagnjenost k bolj individualni interpretaciji je povezana z večjo podporo sodobnim razlagam vere, nižjo podporo tradicionalnim spolnim vlogam, in v smeri večje kritičnosti do patriarhalnih norm.

Title:The interpretation of islamic religious practices among muslim women in Slovenia: between tradition, liberalism, and the influence of demographic factors on personal religious beliefs
Abstract:The thesis examined how Muslim women in Slovenia interpret Islamic religious practices. The empirical part analysed primary data collected through a snowball-sampled survey of adult Muslim women living in Slovenia. Results show that personal beliefs, family-cultural norms, and social environment shape religious interpretations. We find that Arab women, more than Bosnian, follow family-cultural religious customs, while Muslim women born in Slovenia are somewhat more in favour of gender equality. Stronger religiosity and formal religious education are associated with more consistent religious practice. Muslim women who have religious education, as well as those who identify as more religious, observe religious duties more strictly. Furthermore, we find that religious practices are shaped by family relationships and experiences of discrimination. Deviations from family expectations more often lead to conflict, while discrimination, especially intersectional, is linked with greater adaptation of religious practises. We also find that interpretive awareness shapes the understanding of religious content. A tendency toward more individualistic interpretation is associated with greater support for contemporary explanations of religion, lower support for traditional general roles, and greater criticism of patriarchal norms. However, this does not mean abandoning religiosity, as it does not lead to less frequent or less visible religious practice.
