Abstract:Namen diplomskega dela je bil preučiti in analizirati strokovno literaturo in ugotoviti, katere borilne veščine so najbolj primerne za policista, ko mora uporabiti telesno silo pri svojem delu.

Title:Analysis of the suitability of different martial arts for the use of physical force in police work
Abstract:The purpose of this thesis was to research and analzye professional literature in order to determine which martial arts are most suitable for police officers when they need to use physical force in their line of duty. The thesis presents police powers, the priciples of their application, and physical force as one of the police coercive measures. We analyzed the martial arts used by the Slovenian Police, describing their history, characteristics, and suitability for police practice. We aslo analyzed martial arts that are not part of Slovenian police practice, but. are part of foreign police training, namelz Brazilian jiu – jitsu (BJJ) and wrestiling. The empirical part of the thesis was based on interviews with experienced self-defense and practical procedure instructors at the Police Academy, Police Directorate, and Special Unit of the Slovenian Police. We found that the most useful techniques for police use of physical force are ju - jitsu and judo, as they offer effective, safe, and proportionate control of individuals while minimizing the risk of injury. Ju - jitsu is considered a more suitable foundation, as it encompasses a wide range of techniques, while judo complements it with effective throws and control holds. We found that Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling could complement the existing knowledge of police officers, especially in controlling people on the ground. Based on these findings, we have determined that the legal, professional, and successful use of physical force is not based solely on knowledge of martial arts, but also requires a high level of physical and mental preparedness of the police officer and the ability to control emotions in stressful situations, which enables the police officer to successfully carry out their task.
