Abstract:Magistrska naloga obravnava analizo materialnega toka in oceno življenjskega cikla bakra v Sloveniji med letoma 2018 in 2021. Naloga potrjuje vse tri hipoteze in poudarja potrebo po izboljšavah: razogljičenju proizvodnje, nadgradnji sistema reciklaže, digitalizaciji materialnih tokov in močnejši zakonodajni podpori. Predlagane so tudi smernice za nadaljnje raziskave.

Title:Analysis of copper material flow and impacts on the environment in Slovenia
Abstract:This master’s thesis presents a material flow analysis and life cycle assessment of copper in Slovenia from 2018 to 2021. The aim of the research was to examine how copper enters, circulates, and exits the national economy, as well as to assess the environmental impacts of its life cycle stages. Statistical data from SiStat, Eurostat, and UN Comtrade were used for modeling in the Sphera (GaBi) software, applying the ReCiPe 2016 Midpoint (H) method. The results show that Slovenia remains highly import-dependent, while domestic production is minimal. The recycling rate fluctuated during the observed period, with a significant drop in 2021. The production phase generated the highest environmental impact, whereas the end-of-life recycling phase significantly reduced the overall footprint. All three research hypotheses were confirmed. The thesis highlights the need for improvements in decarbonizing production, upgrading recycling systems, digitalizing material flows, and strengthening regulatory support. Recommendations for future research are also proposed.
