Abstract:Uvod: Per- in polifluoroalkilne snovi (PFAS) so obstojne sintetične kemikalije, ki se zaradi široke industrijske in potrošniške uporabe pogosto pojavljajo v okolju, vključno s pitno vodo. Sistematično iskanje je potekalo v podatkovnih bazah PubMed, CINAHL in Web of Science. Pri iskanju literature smo upoštevali PRISMA priporočila. Podatki so bili analizirani s kvalitativnim pristopom in tematsko analizo. Rezultati: S sistematičnim iskanjem literature smo identificirali 214 zadetkov.

Title:Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water: etiology of contamination and effects on public health
Abstract:Introduction: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent synthetic chemicals widely used in industrial and consumer products and frequently detected in drinking water. Due to their environmental persistence, bioaccumulation potential, and links to adverse health effects, PFAS pose a significant public health concern. This study aimed to review sources of PFAS in drinking water, contamination pathways, and impacts on human health to support improved risk understanding and regulation. Methods: A scoping review of scientific literature was conducted. Relevant studies were systematically identified in the PubMed, CINAHL, and Web of Science databases. When searching the literature, we followed the PRISMA recommendations. Data were analyzed using a qualitative approach with thematic analysis. Results: The literature search identified 214 records. After removing duplicates and screening titles and abstracts, 38 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility. Thirty-five research articles met the inclusion criteria and were included in the final analysis. Discussion and conclusion: PFAS in drinking water originate mainly from industrial discharges, firefighting foams, wastewater treatment plants, and other contamination sources, and may occur in various drinking water supplies. Exposure may affect the immune system, hormonal balance, and child development, emphasizing the importance of monitoring, regulation, water treatment, and public awareness.
Keywords:per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), drinking water, public health, human exposure
